all the world around is wet. it is raining hard and i can hardly make out the objects from the window. i can just guess or recall the things i usually see.
igor send me some photographs from our Roja-Kolka trekking trip and i cannot help but having a kind of nostalgic attack. it was beautiful and it was so spontaneous, escaping the city for 4 days of walking and living in a forest by the sea, eating blueberries for breakfast and being alone together with the Nature.

and i remember entering pine forest and the mixed feelings of fear, humility and joy that seized me when it started raining and thunderclaps where so near, above us and the seashore was wrapped up by the cold white stormy haze. the feeling of being so small in the face of nature. but that very moment life was so saturated, filled with absolute happiness.
our last night we spent in a fairy place. everything was just perfect. trees and moss grown glades, dry branches, blueberry fields everything was at its right place, it felt like we came to be in the theatre, and the decorations were made by the divine-somebody. we were the only actors, but i know spectators were also there, hiding, but watching us.

| its been a month or even more since I am back to China, to the city where I have already spent one year. its still a strange place to be and, although I got used to Chinese people quite fast, it seems they will never get used to you.
for a change I moved to another Hangzhou district called Zhuang Tang, to the campus (also called elephant mount) that is surrounded by the overgrown mountains and tea plantations. it is such a great difference between life in the city center overfilled with expensive cars, people, booming nightlife and a suburban life built-up with two story concrete ugly houses, with blue richkshas here and there, wild dogs and old grandmas and grandpas walking around in their pyjamas. I enjoy the change.
and I am grateful for the place I live in: with the wild forest (so dense and overgrown so that you cannot see through and its hard to guess how many different tree species there are growing in one square meter (maybe 20?))
and fruits: figs, persimmons (also raw! great taste!), (water)melons, grapes etc, that I can get from a market
and the evening songs of the birds and strange insect, that are recently especially uneasy maybe foreboding colder times.
but the main reason why I am here is the MA course of History of Chinese Art that I will be taking at least for the next 3 years. I am a student again. I got conscious about the fact maybe a week ago. Art or its history is something I had never ever studied before actually - this is another thing I got conscious about just now. And how I got to get here, to this University - is another strange thing that happened to me. maybe karma. definitely.
here are some postcard with drawings of a Japanese artists that I found in a small street shop recently. love them (especially because all these small insects are out in the streets now, bees, dragonflies, grasshoppers...): it's a sunny day today, a great day for some Chinese texts, warm soya bean drink and a walk in the park with a friend. hope yours sunny too!

| just now watched an interview with Alexander Gronsky on vimeo (russian/latvian only). I am thankful for the new ideas I've got after watching and also happy to remember something that was forgotten: his series of photographs Pastoral, filmed here and there on the outskirts of Moscow. last time we had a chance to see the work at the summer school of photography in Ludza (issp), with the comments of the author. I find it really great.

more photographs from the series

| начинаю вести бложек.
today, so suddenly I was reminded of a photographer Nadav Kander and his inspiring project Yangtze: The Long River. It is beautiful series of photographs taken along the bank of Yangtze river, full of strange places, people and silence.

after watching his photographs again and again I feel so inspired and excited about going back, seeing new places and getting deeper into this special place and its people. | comments: Leave a comment |
